Kletzenbrot (Christmas fruit bread)

3 cups flour
2/3 cup brown sugar
3 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
2 cups buttermilk
1 cup chopped prunes
1 cup diced dates or figs
1 cup raisins


1. Blend all dry ingredients together.

2. Add buttermilk slowly, sitting to make a smooth dough. Stir in nuts and fruits.

3. Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan. Spoon batter into pan.

4. Bake at 350°F for 45 minutes.
